HOBBS RESIDENCE

After completing Bob and Karen Hobbs’ La Jolla beachfront home, they invited Kitchen Studio Del Mar to take on an even larger challenge — the full renovation of the historic Barry Goldwater Estate in Paradise Valley, AZ, a beautiful suburb just outside Phoenix. The project spanned three years and began by taking the original structure down to the slab, rebuilding a completely custom residence, and redesigning the entire yard and surrounding acreage.

Kitchen Studio Del Mar collaborated closely with the Hobbs’ architect, and my role evolved into a deeply hands‑on, creative partnership. I designed all of the custom cabinetry and millwork throughout the kitchen, baths, and laundry, and worked directly with Karen’s interior designer not only on finishes, but also on space planning and several key furniture selections. When certain pieces couldn’t be sourced locally in Arizona, I helped Karen find exactly what she needed in California to complete the vision.

It was an incredibly rewarding project — one where every architectural detail, finish, and custom furnishing was thoughtfully coordinated to create a home that feels both personal to the Hobbs and timeless in its design.
